WHAT'S HAPPENING!:
Mass is Suspended in the Diocese of Manchester: In response to directives given by the President, the Center for Disease Control, and the Governor, to limit groupings to no more than 10 people, our Bishop Peter Libasci has declared that, effective immediately and until further notice, there will be no Masses available for the general public to attend in the Diocese of Manchester. The obligation to attend Mass is dispensed. This includes other church gatherings as well, such as Stations of the Cross and classes. Churches will still be open for people to come and pray.
Priests will continue to celebrate Masses in private for the intentions of the people.
This is the way we are being called this Lent to put other people first, to hunger more deeply for Christ, to love our neighbor, to serve Christ in our brothers and sisters in the wider community, to live in solidarity with the sick, and to live in solidarity with many around the world who do not have frequent access to the Sacraments.
Sometimes we choose things to do or give up for Lent, and sometimes Lent chooses things for us . . . to stretch our hearts and grow in love.
During this time, we would encourage people to participate in Mass on television:
http://www.catholictv.org/masses/catholictv-mass:
Our Catholic Radio Station WICX 102.7FM broadcasts the Mass 7 days a week at 8am.

Receiving the Body of Christ
In the New Testament there are two Greek words used to refer to body: "soma" and "sarx".
"Soma" refers to a body of a person insofar as it is good, healthy, and virtuous - for example the body of Jesus as it rose in glory from the dead.
"Sarx" refers to a body or flesh of a person pejoratively or negatively, or in an unfavorable way, insoar as the person gets sick, smells, sins, corrupts, decays, and dies.
Amazingly and scandalously, in the Gospel of John chapter 6, Jesus uses the term “sarx” not “soma” to refer to us eating his "body" or "flesh". It’s obvious that he is not simply referring to us receiving, becoming one with, embracing, and loving his perfect, resurrected, glorified body in heaven – or he would have used the term “soma”. By using the term “sarx” he must be referring to more than himself. By using the word “sarx” he must mean that we are also receiving, becoming one with, having compassion for, embracing, forgiving, being patient with, and loving the imperfect, sick, broken, wounded, sinful, suffering body and flesh of humanity that he is intimately one with – “the least of his brothers and sisters . . . the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned” (Matthew 25). This is the body that Jesus loves, serves, identifies with, ate with, gave his life for, and wants us to love, serve, identify with, be in communion with, and give our lives to as well. This is the same reason Jesus washed feet at the Last Supper account in John 13, intimately connecting receiving the body of Christ with lovingly touching and washing the dirty, smelly parts of humanity. This can be challenging to us, which is the reason why so many of his believers walked away at that time and why many of us may also be struggling at this time.
We cannot simply love Jesus in his glorified perfection in the Eucharist without at the same time loving him in his imperfect and annoying body of humanity in the world. It’s a whole package that cannot be separated. That’s the heart of the Christian message of Incarnation. This is why attempting to receive Jesus in the Eucharist at the risk of exposing others to this virus would totally contradict the love we are to have for Jesus who is to be loved “in the least of his brothers and sisters”. While we may not be receiving Jesus in the sacrament of the Eucharist at this time, this is the way we can receive and love Jesus and his "sarx" – through prayer and physical social distancing - at this place and during this time.
Blessed Lent & Blessed Way of the Cross!
